On the island’s eastern coast, Las Iguanas Golf Club is in a quiet and fairly secluded spot. In addition to being right on the ocean, the course also benefits from various inland lakes. Part of the course runs alongside a nature preserve, and seeing a good amount of wildlife is a given. Golfers will find lush wetlands, caves, and an abundance of native vegetation.
Las Iguanas Golf Club – Cap Cana is the second golf course, and second Jack Nicklaus Signature Design to be built at Cap Cana. With eighteen holes bordering a series of bluffs made up of limestone rock, the course features three holes accentuated by the Caribbean Sea and three holes within exotic mangroves. The course presents an eclectic test with three oceanside holes (12 thru’ 14) hugging the rocky shoreline.
Las Iguanas will challenge your golfing skills in a mainly open-parkland setting, where water hazards are deployed and bunkers crafted in true Jack Nicklaus style. Part of the course skirts a nature preserve marked by indigenous vegetation, wetland settings and caves that shelter iguanas and other native wildlife. Jack’s demand for perfection in all aspects of his course designs shine through as he places his personal attention and supervision into every detail of Las Iguanas development.
With a US$26 million investment, Las Iguanas is a course filled with challenges for all who tee off. The unique characteristics that this course is playing range from spectacular ocean front holes through to dense and diverse vegetation located throughout the entire round of golf. The beautiful landscape which blesses Cap Cana has been incorporated into the course’s design, to enhance the wonder and amazement that will fill each golfer’s round.
Cap Cana takes its name from the French “Cap”, meaning Cape, and the large number of cana palms (copernicia hospita or Cuban Wax Palms) found in this area. With the opening of Las Iguanas as a public-access course, its sister-course at Cap Cana, the world-rated Punta Espada layout, will revert to being a private club. Guests may only play if hosted by a member or, on a limited basis, if staying at Sanctuary Cap Cana.
